Solving STSE Issues with Drones
Lesson Overview: The students will be tasked with coming up with a constructive use for a mid-sized drone.Their project will involve designing and developing an accessory to the drones to fulfill a specific purpose, using engineering design process, then testing their design and using their drone to take data if possible.
The particular lesson proposes that each group, through the use of the engineering design process, design and construct an attachment accessory that will secure the anemometer to the drone. A drone that has the ability to secure an anemometer will provide researchers with wind speed, height, and geographic coordinate data that will be increasingly reliable and valid. The data collected from the anemometer would permit more precise wind turbine placement for maximum wind speeds which in turn will generate higher amounts of clean energy.
